My Top 5 Antique & Vintage Finds - Drop #3
My Store AdminWe’ve just launched a new drop of curated antique and vintage pieces on our website, all sourced from the North West region of France. Here are my top 5 picks.
Victorian Sorcerers mirror
Boy do I have a thing for mirrors at the moment. I think it’s because they’re one of those items that can be incorporated into your home at any season. They add interest, can bounce light and let’s be honest they are practical too! The type of mirrors I’m drawn to are the ones that add interest, and that’s exactly what this gorgeous Victorian Sorcerers mirror does.
You might be thinking, what is a sorcerers mirror? Well, it’s a specific style of mirror that were made in the Victorian era. They feature these reverse convex optics that distort light and reflections, intentionally designed to create a mystical atmosphere - which makes the woowoo in me very happy. They were created in limited production runs so these indeed are very special. Especially the shape of this one combined with the bevelled detail. I am in love.
Red Glossy Ceramic Basketweave Bowl
Vallauris, pottery and ceramics made in the South of France are some of my favourites in the antique world. Whenever I stumble upon a piece at a flea market or brocante, it has to come home with me. This piece is such a fine example of Vallauris pottery. It’s deep, rich colour, glossy finish and thick and chunky design which is very distinguished. You may be familiar with this style, often seen in this basket weave such as this one, or a chain link design. Although there is no signature of a maker on here, it’s in the manner of Jerome Massier who is famous for creating this style. We can’t get enough. Fill it with lemons and place centrepiece on your table scape and I promise it will bring you joy each day.
Venetian Caged Mouth-blown Glass Lantern
Where do I begin! To me, everything about the design of this lantern is perfect. It’s bulbous style with the mouth-blown amber glass, caged in wrought iron finished with a fluted conical hat which transitions to a diamond shape chain link. What I also love so much is that you can feel the craftsmanship in the detail of the air bubbles in the glass, which would have appeared naturally while it was being made. Such a high quality piece, it’s crying out to be placed in a porch or hallway.
French Art Deco Burr Sphere Bookends
If there’s ever a show stopper on your bookshelf, it’s these. These are the main character of your bookshelf. Art deco flair with their perfectly rounded and shiny spheres, hand crafted and made with burr wood which has the most incredible rich, mottled finish. These ones are especially in fantastic condition for their age. We love them for adding character and interest, they have the ability to elevate a styled space.
Pair of Hammered Pewter Candelabras
Pewter will forever be one of my top metals to incorporate into interiors, it has the ability to balance that feel between that chicness that stainless steel offers, and warmth that you get from brass. It’s a soft metal so it’s often found engraved or hammered, just like this pair of candelabras. Because of that, it does often mean many pewter antique or vintage pieces you come across are damaged. The design detail on these are excellent, the hammered edge, curled feet and cylindrical columns with swirl detail either side.
