Offered as a set, an Italian brass crested shield mirror and matching wall-mounted console, attributed to Gio Ponti, c.1950s.
The mirror retains its original glass plate, which sits in a slim brass frame rising to a sculptural looped crest. In good vintage condition with a warm patina to the brass, and some slight foxing to the mirror plate which is not very noticeable and hard to capture in photography. The wooden backing has been later replaced.
The floating console echoes the mirror, the same warm even brass patina throughout and the same architectural lines, with the curved form of the shelf and a looping detail beneath. The curved shelf features back-coloured glass, a finish associated with quality Italian production of the period, where the colour is applied to the underside and viewed through the glass. The console fixes to the wall via the shelf and looped brass. It is in good vintage condition consistent with age, the coating has begun to flake slightly in places.
Sourced in Italy.
