A rectangular perforated metal tray attributed to Mathieu Matégot, France circa 1950s. Formed from a single sheet of metal with the repeating pattern of circles and quatrefoil perforations. Folded at the edges and folded handles. The construction method is characteristic of Matégot's workshop production. Shows signs of age and use, including later paint over the original finish and paint loss to edges.

L: 29cm 11.4" x W: 12.5cm 4.9" x H: 5.5cm 2.25"

Sourced in France.

Matégot (1910–2001) was a Hungarian designer that settled in France in the 1930s. He learned metalworking as a prisoner of war, and on his release developed his rigitulle technique, his patented perforated metal. Distinctive to him and instantly recognisable, now held in major design collections.
